Race, Equity & Diversity in Careers

Formed in January 2024, the Race Equity and Diversity in Careers (REDiC) Incubator was developed to build research capacity and support the development of research careers for racially minoritised health and care professionals. The Incubator’s work is driven by the themes of the NIHR Research Inclusion Strategy. This includes the ambition to increase the diversity of NIHR researchers, award holders and panel members.

Project Mission

REDiC aims to attract and inspire people from racially minoritised backgrounds to pursue careers in health and care research, and to participate in NIHR and other funding selection committees. The Incubator will provide a safe, supportive and inclusive environment in which the community can have open dialogue to explore barriers and enablers experienced at different career stages.

Project Objectives

Our objectives are to:

  • Create a safe and inclusive community for understanding barriers and building research capacity, capability and delivery
  • Increase awareness of career pathways in health and care research and identify transition points where more support is needed.
  • Stimulate and inspire research careers by providing, training, role models and mentoring and professional development opportunities.
  • Advocate for change.

To ensure delivery on these objectives we have four aligned workstreams, which you can read more about on our new Workstream pages. In collaboration with stakeholders and working with our community, we seek to provide a foundation from which future NIHR infrastructure and /or initiatives may emerge to further extend and implement benefits & opportunities for underrepresented groups.

We're growing this website and there's much more coming soon.
