Congratulations to Prof. Mahendra Patel OBE, who has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the RCGP at their recent awards ceremony.
REDiC Co-Lead and Director of the Oxford Centre for Research Equity was recognised by the RCGP at their inaugural awards ceremony on Friday 20th June 2025 and becomes the first pharmacist to receive this esteemed award.
Prof. Mahendra Patel has long advocated for research equity and inclusivity, especially for healthcare professionals from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds. As well as working towards improving healthcare outcomes for ‘underserved and marginalised communities’ through collaborative work across disciplines. Prof. Patel commented:
As a pharmacist, receiving the highest honour from a Royal Medical College is far beyond anything I could have imagined — it’s more than just symbolic. It brings hope and inspiration to other non-medical professionals, signalling the value of working together to drive system-wide change and improve outcomes for all.
